Racing Mechanic shifts to QP Lubes to cool down his differential by 20 degrees

In Round 2 of the QP Lubes Victorian Sports Sedan Championship, Michael Falzon, a mechanic from P&L Mechanical was making a switch in his diff oil, trialling the QP Lubes 80W/140 Diff Oil for his team’s car. Michael was familiar with the QP Lubes brand, using their car oil and lubricants regularly in his customers’ cars as well as his own but this is the first time he had tested it in the harsh conditions of a racing car. All weekend they were qualifying and placing in the top 5 of the field, which is higher from where they typically finish in the top ten and experienced no issues regarding the diff’s temperature.

“Temperature wise this has had a massive impact on the differential. When using the 80W/140 the differential’s temperature was 130°C. Typically, we had recorded temperatures of 150°C utilising one of the major brand oils, which means that with QP Lubes we were able to achieve a 20°C difference.” 

The benefits of have a smaller differential is absolutely great as it helps them to prolong the life of the equipment to make their hobby more affordable.

“Next race we will be exploring different options with the QP Lubes range. We will be trying the QP Lubes’ gear oil to see how well it affects the temperature in the gear box. If it has similar results as to what we achieved through the last race weekend, we will be very happy and hopefully we go that bit further to get on the podium.”
